[概要] 東京農工大学は、農学と工学という異なる知の領域が交差する、非常にユニークな学びの場です。大学での学びの特徴は、知識を「受け取る」こと以上に、自ら考え、選び、決断する場面が多いことにあります。大学生活で積み重ねる一つ一つの選択と決断が、将来の可能性を形づくっていきます。
本講義では、そのような大学生活を考えるための視点として、「エントロピー（Entropy）」という概念を導入します。エントロピーは物理学では、系が自然に無秩序へと向かう傾向を表す指標です。社会、環境、文化も同様に、何もしなければ次第に崩れていきます。つまり、現状を保つためにも、意図的な行動とエネルギーが必要なのです。この視点から見ると、未来への向き合い方は大きく二つに分かれます。
一つは、「どうせ崩れるのだから何をしても無駄だ」と考える悲観的な態度。もう一つは、「誰かが何とかしてくれるだろう」と行動を委ねてしまう楽観的な態度です。しかし、どちらの態度も、変化の中で主体性を失いやすくなります。未来が確定していないからこそ、皆さん一人ひとりの選択と行動には意味があります。
現在は、生成AIが大量の情報やコンテンツを生み出す時代です。情報があふれる一方で、文脈や意図を欠いたまま受け取れば、それは単なる「ノイズ」になりかねません。一方で、私たち人間がそれらを批判的に読み取り、目的をもって選び、意味づけることで、新しい価値や秩序を生み出すことができます。
技術が進化するほど、人間には倫理的判断力と創造的な関与が強く求められます。
本講義では、「Time is Life（時間は命）」という視点を軸に、大学における時間の使い方、選択と決断の重要性、そして多様な経験が将来のレジリエンスにつながる理由を、具体例とともに考えていきます。

Introduction of this 25 min. talk> Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is a unique learning environment where two distinct domains of knowledge—agriculture and engineering—intersect.
One of the defining features of studying at university is not only acquiring knowledge, but repeatedly thinking, choosing, and making decisions for yourself. The choices and decisions you make during your university years will gradually shape your future possibilities.
In this lecture, we introduce the concept of entropy as a lens for understanding university life and decision-making. In physics, entropy describes the natural tendency of systems to move toward disorder. Societies, environments, and cultures behave similarly—if left unattended, they slowly deteriorate. In other words, maintaining or creating value always requires intentional effort and energy.
From this perspective, there are two common attitudes toward an uncertain future. One is pessimism: “Since everything will eventually break down, nothing I do really matters.” The other is passive optimism: “Someone else will take care of it.” Both attitudes, however, make individuals vulnerable to change because they surrender agency. Precisely because the future is not predetermined, your choices and actions matter.
Today, we live in an era where generative AI produces vast amounts of information and content. Without critical interpretation and intentional design, such outputs can easily become high-entropy noise—abundant but meaningless. By contrast, when humans engage with technology critically, add context, intention, and values, new forms of order and meaning can emerge. As technology advances, the importance of ethical judgment and creative intervention by humans only increases.
Centered on the idea of “Time is Life,” this lecture explores how time is used in university, why decision-making matters, and how diverse experiences can contribute to long-term resilience.
