Insertion of colloidal particles in the pores of a honeycomb structure via an aerosol route (気中に分散した液中微粒子のハニカム型多孔質体細孔内への沈着)

この研究のきっかけは、大気中に浮遊した微粒子が植物の葉の気孔に「詰まる」現象に着目した時。粒子径との気孔のサイズとの関係やその輸送の推進力について仮説が必要でした。大気中の微粒子の輸送において、私たちは「静電気力」も大事な推進力であることを提案しています。

A spray-based gas-phase method was proposed to insert presynthesized particles into a honeycomb structure. The fabricated structure, based on anodic aluminum oxide (AAO), had pores with an average diameter of 5.5 μm. When the structure was conductively coated and connected with a negative voltage, the positively charged (~1 μm) particles were located deep inside the pore canal (with a depth up to 130 μm) of the structure. Numerical simulations also showed that the electrostatic effect is the main driving force for inserting the particles.

Dr. Nakamura graduated from Univ. of Tokushima (Bachelor 1977, Master 1979, Doctor 1994). The key technology for blue LED was discovered in Nichia Corporation (Tokushima) where he joined this company in 1979. He left Nichia in 1999 to joined University of California.

In 2010-2011, Hama (濱) was doctoral student; Takashima (高島) was master student; Gen(玄)was master student (in 2011 became doctoral student); Dr. Tsukada and Prof. Kamiya are our “strong” collaborators.

火力発電所等の燃焼過程における粒子生成を実験室内で模擬した。モデル混合排気ガスには軽金属(アルカリ)と重金属系の粉末の昇華を用いて、その後の希釈(冷却)と凝縮による粒子化の挙動を計測した研究。火力発電所や室内等の「燃焼の場」における捕集技術の高度化に役に立つ。

Thermal Fluid Analysis by Numerical simulation

The emission of alkali (“light-metals”) and heavy metals in combustion processes is an important contributor to environmental load. We investigated experimentally in the laboratory the generation of particles from model exhaust gases derived from NaCl and CdCl2. An on-line gas-phase measurement system showed that the mean diameters of aerosol particles derived from the evaporation of NaCl and CdCl2 were 35 and 30 nm, respectively, when the dilution ratio of the model gas was 1:20. The value was 50 nm in two-metal co-evaporation (NaCl and CdCl2). These results may be informative for predicting the phenomena related to gas-to-particle conversion at the exit of stationary emission sources.
