The series of CHISA International Congresses held in the centre of Europe began in 1962 in Brno, Czechoslovakia, then continued in Mariánské Lázně and, since 1972, in Prague. The term CHISA is derived from the Czech acronym for “Chemical Engineering, Chemical Equipment Design and Automation” and later became a “trademark” for large meetings that emphasised East-West and later pan-European contacts. However, the gradual development over the last two decades has transformed what was once a European congress into an event of global importance.
